San Antonio – A San Antonio carnitas joint featured on Netflix’s Taco Chronicles a few years back will have a new location just around the corner from its current food truck location on Broadway.
Carnitas Don Raul shared renderings of the new location on its Instagram, indicating that the firm is working on the project in collaboration with Maria Guiza Architecture Studio from Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico.
Carnitas Don Raul told KSAT he is working with fellow Morelia native Frida Molina on the branding, as well as Benny Costello, owner of B&C Construction.
The new location will be located at 325 West Jones Ave. Carnitas Don Raul told KSAT he will be moving his food truck to the back of the new store to prepare his specialty carnitas.
The Blanco Road location will be temporarily closed “until we have complete control over the new taqueria,” the company told KSAT.
Renderings show an outdoor seating area with windows to the outside, as well as an indoor area.
Carnitas Don Raul said it will share some of its space with La Venita and will sell “mezcal from Michoacan, tequila and Mexican beer.”
If you like all the dishes on the food truck's menu, don't worry: The establishment plans to keep its current menu but will also add desserts like flan and arroz con leche to offer customers new options.
As for the musical atmosphere at the new store, the company said, “The music will be bolero and Mexican pop during breakfast, and electro cumbia and Mexican house in the afternoon.”
The company hopes to have the new stores open by next Thursday, and their new opening hours will be 10am to 7pm Tuesday through Sunday, with Mondays closed.
