MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A man linked to a series of store thefts in downtown Montgomery was taken into custody using what Acting Police Chief John Hall called “good old-fashioned police work.”
Police say multiple businesses in the area of Narrow Lane Road and Carter Hill Road have been robbed in recent days. Hall said police sent officers and shift supervisors to the area to investigate after receiving reports of the crime from the businesses.
Police identified 19-year-old Treykrist Sankey of Montgomery as a suspect. He was arrested Thursday and charged with four counts of third-degree burglary and one count of second-degree burglary. Bail is set at $7,500 for each charge, totaling $37,500, according to county jail records.
Hall explained how officers quickly resolved the incident by “doing what they had to do.” He said officers responding to the latest call on Thursday searched the area, found Sankey hiding and took him into custody without incident.
“They did the right thing and were able to go back and make contact with the victims and property owners, review the video and confirm that this was the suspect who had broken into these businesses,” he said.
Hall said officers do this work every day to keep Montgomery safe and rely on citizens to report suspicious activity. Anyone can report it to the Montgomery Police Department at 334-241-2651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-7867. If it's an emergency, call 911.
