Diplomacy, but let's make it fashion.
Some of the biggest names in politics, fashion and entertainment attended a lavish dinner in Paris on Saturday to commemorate the historic alliance between the United States and France.
Attendees included President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, who wore midnight blue off-the-shoulder gowns in white satin belted at the waist, and French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron, who wore white sheath dresses with mesh sleeves and pointed heels that peek out from the hem of their skirts.
“France is our number one ally, and that's no small thing,” President Biden told ABC News during a toast at a dinner marking the week of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings.
Former American tennis superstar John McEnroe arrived at the Elysee Palace in a smart suit and tie, accompanied by his wife, singer Patti Smith, who wore a dark polka-dot dress.
And they were in fashionable company: Actress Salma Hayek, wearing a glamorous floor-length dress with a floaty black skirt and sexy lace bodice, arrived accompanied by her husband, François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of fashion giant Kering, which owns some of the fashion industry's biggest brands, including Gucci, Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga.
The multitalented Pharrell Williams, new creative designer for Louis Vuitton, arrived at the event wearing an LV-emblazoned belt, which he paired with a white wide-brimmed hat, bolo tie and dark denim, staying true to his Westernized design DNA.
The guest list also included former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni, Biden administration press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who wore a butter yellow gown, and French actress Lea Seydoux, who wore a navy blue dress.
