Eagle View Elementary teacher Dianne Trottier is one of the finalists for the 2024 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
The awards are the nation's highest honor for K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics and computer science teachers in the United States and are administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Deanne Trottier has taught second, third and fourth grade at Eagle View for 21 years, but only began teaching the school's E-STEM program three years ago.
Trottier believes the E-STEM program will give students a chance to run in the sun while also helping them develop a greater understanding and respect for the environment.
Trottier took over the school’s nature center after longtime teacher Jim Meinrich retired, which eventually led to the birth of the E-STEM program, and she used a $10,000 grant from Sourcewell to build out more outdoor learning spaces.
Trottier's selection as a finalist for the 2024 President's Award comes as no surprise to his colleagues.
Her impact at Eagle View can be felt and seen through her work in the STEM fields and the impact she has had on students.
The teacher selected as the winner will be given a trip to Washington, D.C., where they will attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities, as well as receive a $10,000 award from NSF.
