Stepping onto the red carpet at an awards show or movie premiere seems like a dream, but it's not what you'd expect. Walking down the carpet with all eyes on you and photographers yelling your name can be pretty nerve-wracking, and a few celebs admit they just hate it. From the extravagant get-ups to the intimidating interviewers, these celebs say they wish it wasn't part of the job.

1. Khloe Kardashian
Khloe Kardashian may be an A-list celebrity, but she admits she's not a fan of the red carpet, and she made the revelation on the show amid rumors she'd been blacklisted from the Met Gala. The KardashiansShe explained that she just didn't want to go.
“I've been invited in the past, I just decided not to go. I'm not interested in the red carpet, I think I've made that very clear,” Chloe said on the show.
When Chloe actually attends the Met Gala in 2022, she share Her “anxiety reached fever pitch” and she “nearly had a heart attack” on the carpet.

2. Victoria Beckham
Victoria Beckham has ruled the stage for years as a member of the Spice Girls, but when it comes to the red carpet, it's just not her thing. Victoria explained that after years of criticism, she doesn't like putting herself out there anymore.
“I can't wait to get off the carpet and for it to be over. I don't know if it's because of all the years of being photographed and criticized, but I just feel exposed and vulnerable and uncomfortable and not being my true self,” she told The Times.
3. Adele
Adele has said since early in her career that walking the red carpet is one of her least favorite things, explaining in 2012 that rather than getting anxious, she just wanted to do something else.
“I hate red carpets. It's not that I get anxiety, but I'm like, 'Oh, I don't want to do this.' It literally makes me sick to my stomach,” she told Vogue. “At the VMAs, [in 2011]”I felt like I was really uncomfortable there because there were so many superstars there. But that was from day one. I never thought, 'Oh, yeah, I should be here.' Plus, I missed my best friend's bachelorette night. So, to be honest, I was a little disappointed that I wasn't there.”

4. Cillian Murphy
Cillian Murphy has openly admitted that he doesn't really like walking the red carpet, explaining that looking back on his career, he doesn't just love being a showbiz personality, but wishes he could enjoy it more.
“I guess I'm just not very good at being a 'personality' and I'm not very comfortable doing the red carpet and talk show scenarios,” he told The Irish Post. “I wish I could, because it would make life easier.”
5. Zayn Malik
Zayn Malik has always shunned the spotlight, including the red carpet. He did attend the 2016 Met Gala, but he said he was persuaded by his former stylist to attend, and that he thought of it more as “fun” than a serious event.
“Right now is not the place for me to go. I'd rather sit at home and do something productive than be photographed on the red carpet in really expensive clothes. Being self-satisfied on the red carpet, like, 'Look at me, I'm amazing,' is not who I am,” Zayn told GQ.

6. Busy Phillips
The busy Phillips isn't a fan of red carpets because they end up being a huge financial burden: The expense of the hair, makeup, and wardrobe teams required to prepare for an event means she has to be “constantly busy,” she says.
“Studios and production companies only pay a certain percentage of your hair, makeup and costumes, so you have to provide the rest yourself, so you're paying $1,000 out of your own pocket, and you end up being like, 'What am I doing?' Sometimes I feel like I should just go to these events covered in mud as a protest,” Busy told Page Six.
7. Anna Kendrick
Early in Anna Kendrick's career in 2010, she admitted that she really hated walking the red carpet at events and premieres. At the time, she said it was part of the job and that she was working hard to get better at it.
“Oh, no, I don't want to [going to premieres]”It's literally the worst thing in the world, but I'm working hard to get better,” Anna told Company. “It's part of the job and it's a skill just like any other, so I just smile and get through it, look pretty, and pretend the photographer isn't yelling at me.”

8. Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran is an extremely private person, so it's no surprise he hates the red carpet. On TikTok, he responded to another video showcasing a rare photo of the singer on the red carpet, expressing just how much he hates it.
“I look so awkward right? I hate the red carpet,” Ed said in the video, adding in the caption, “Be careful who loves the red carpet.”
9. Kirsten Dunst
Kirsten Dunst once explained that her dislike of red carpets is due to the way the photos turn out: She says the lighting never works and photographers don't understand flattering angles.
“I hate red carpet photos! The lighting is too flat! It erases your cheekbones and makes you look like you have a moon face,” Kirsten told Lucky magazine. “I really hate those photos. I always look awful. And I can't see the angles of my face. There's no artistry. I hate it.”
10. Carey Mulligan
Looking back at her early days as a celebrity, Carey Mulligan admitted that she never really liked being in the spotlight, explaining that red carpets scared her so much that she would often feel overwhelmed and close to tears.
“I've never been good at being photographed or walking red carpets, and I still don't like it. When I was younger I would be paralyzed with fear. I'd arrive at the end of the red carpet in tears. It was a horrible experience,” she told Radio Times. “I don't know why, but I just found it a bit overwhelming. I should have been at a party having a good time, but instead I was at the party thinking, 'When can I go home?'”
11. Gabourey Sidibe
Gabourey Sidibe doesn't understand the meaning of the red carpet. In fact, she says she wishes she could skip it altogether because she thinks the red carpet is fine as long as she can show off the clothes she's wearing.
“I love the red carpet thing. I hate the whole red carpet thing. I don't understand it,” she told People magazine. “I can just go and party or I can just sit and watch a movie? Then I'm in a pretty dress? What are we doing?”
