TREMONT, Ill. (WMBD) — A local, family-owned automotive service company that has served Tremont Village for generations is celebrating a long-standing milestone.
Tremont Oil Company celebrates its 100th anniversary this Friday.
The company offers a variety of services, including oil changes for cars and trucks, tire rotation, fuel delivery and tractor tire sales.
Tom Gibson, owner of Tremont Oil Company since 1996, reflected on the business that has been in his family for generations.
“This has been in my family for 100 years,” Gibson said, “so it's been in the family forever. My uncle bought it after he retired, along with my dad and one of his brothers.”
The history of Tremont Oil Company began on June 14, 1924, when his grandfather started the company in the same building where it still operates today.
Tremont Oil employees have been there for many years, something management takes pride in because it creates a closeness with the customers they’ve served for generations.
“We have families that have been together for almost 100 years, and it's just been passed down from one generation to the next,” Gibson said. “When you're in a small community like this, you really see that.”
The 100th anniversary celebration will be held at Tremont Oil from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, during which giveaways and prizes will be distributed.
