President Donald Trump returned to the U.S. Capitol today for the first time since the January 6th riot, meeting with Republican lawmakers to discuss his campaign and a possible second term in the White House.
During his meeting with lawmakers, the former president spoke about issues including abortion and immigration, but drew outrage after he reportedly called Milwaukee, the host city of the 2024 Republican National Convention, “terrible.”
Republicans argued the quote was taken out of context, but Democrats quickly fired back.
During a busy day in Washington, Trump is scheduled to meet with Republican senators, address a gathering of corporate CEOs, and appear on social media star Logan Paul's podcast. After his interview with Paul, Trump appeared on X Videos to present the host with a MAGA cap and T-shirt featuring his infamous mug shot, declaring it so famous that it “surpasses” that of Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.
Meanwhile, the Republican lawmaker was reportedly furious with House Speaker Mike Johnson after he was convicted in a hush money trial in New York last month, demanding that he help overturn the verdict.
'thank you!'
The jury foreman in Donald Trump's hush money trial ended his verdict notice to the judge, informing the world that a verdict had been reached in the former U.S. president's first criminal case but that he needed 20 minutes to fill out the paperwork, with a cheery and polite “Thank you!”

Republicans reveal what Trump said during closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill
Eric Garcia and Katie Hawkinson The Independent reports from Capitol Hill:
President Donald Trump met with House Republicans on Thursday, marking his first visit to the House of Representatives since before the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
There, Trump is meeting privately with party members just weeks before the Republican National Convention, where he will be nominated as the GOP's presidential candidate, and just months before the 2024 election.
Outside the rally, protesters heckled each other as Republicans filed into the Capitol Hill Club, where Republicans frequently hold rallies. Some protesters called Republicans “sycophants” and carried signs warning them to “don't drink the Kool-Aid.”

“Terrible” Milwaukee remarks controversy continues
Backlash continues following reports that Donald Trump called Milwaukee, the host city of the Republican National Convention, “terrible.”
Milwaukee political columnist Dan Schafer collected three different explanations for the remarks from three Wisconsin Republicans.
Jake Sherman Punchbowl Newswho first reported the former president's comments about the largest city in the state that Republicans believe they need to win in November's election, responded that their explanation proves Trump's statement.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Chang responded: “No, that's complete bullshit. Mr. Trump never said anything that has been falsely said. He was talking about how bad crime and voter fraud are.”
That seems like it would discredit those who originally claimed he didn't say that…

President Trump met with Virginia Governor Youngkin on Wednesday.
Former President Donald Trump met with Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin yesterday at Trump National Golf Club in Washington DC (which is actually in Loudoun County, Virginia).
CBS News' Olivia Rinaldi reports that this isn't a battle for the vice presidential spot, but rather a strategy to win Virginia's election in November, a state that the Trump campaign sees as a key issue in the election, having been dominated by Democrats since 2008.

Biden campaign slams Trump for Milwaukee comments
The Biden campaign slammed Donald Trump's comments about Milwaukee, with Wisconsin Democrat Garren Randolph saying, “If Donald Trump thinks Milwaukee is so bad, he shouldn't come to our city. Milwaukee deserves to be treated better than a convicted criminal, racist and would-be dictator who hates us and our values.”
And another explanation has emerged as to why Trump made the remarks he did.

Keep your hands off me: Supreme Court rules “Trump is too small” cannot be trademarked
A man's attempt to trademark the phrase “TRUMP TOO SMALL” failed when the Supreme Court ruled that a law protecting a person's name from being trademarked without their consent does not violate the First Amendment.
Justice Clarence Thomas wrote in a unanimous decision Thursday that the law limiting trademarking of names reflects a “historic rationale for identifying the source of goods” to ensure “customers know the source of those goods.”
“Political parties have no First Amendment right to piggyback on the goodwill that other groups have built in their name,” Justice Thomas added.
