After being released from hospital, Ramsay took to social media on Saturday to show the bruises on his upper body and said the helmet saved his life.
CONNECTICUT, USA — Hot-blooded British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay showed a different side of himself in a video he posted to X on Saturday following his serious cycling accident in Connecticut earlier this week.
Ramsay, known for his fierce dominance in the kitchen, was more subdued in the video as he spoke about the importance of wearing a helmet while cycling. At the beginning of the video, he talked about his love for cycling, triathlons and Ironman competitions and said he wanted to get across a very important message.
“Unfortunately, I was in a really bad accident this week, which really shocked me, and I'm honestly blessed to be here,” Ramsay told X. “The amazing trauma surgeons, doctors and nurses at the hospital who treated me this week were amazing, but honestly, you have to wear a helmet. Even if you're only traveling a short distance, I don't care if a helmet costs money. A helmet is essential. Even if you're a kid, even if you're only traveling a short distance, you have to wear a helmet.”
While he didn't say where the accident happened, Ramsay thanked the staff at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London in a post on X, and showed off his badly injured torso.
“I'm blessed to be standing here right now. I'm in pain. It's been a tough week but I'm getting through it. But I can't express to you how important it is to have that helmet on,” Ramsey said on X.
Ramsay ended the video by declaring this weekend “amazing.”
He wished new, middle-aged and older dads a Happy Father's Day and reiterated why cyclists should always wear helmets.
“Please, please, please, please wear a helmet. If you didn't, I honestly wouldn't be here right now. Happy Father's Day,” Ramsey said.
Ramsay said in an Instagram post on Saturday that he did not suffer any broken bones or major injuries.
“But it's got a little blemish on it, and it looks like a purple potato,” he said.
