The red carpet last week was filled with glamorous celebrity looks, but some of our favorite stars made some unfortunate style mistakes. Over the past few days, A-listers like Kelly Clarkson, Kristen Wiig, and Jessica Chastain have made appearances at events like the Daytime Emmy Awards and the TriBeCa Film Festival. Other icons like Rihanna, Jodie Comer, and Maya Hawke also showed up to events to promote their respective projects.
Bright colors, questionable pajamas, and sexy gowns dominated celebrity fashion this week. We've compiled a list of the top 5 and bottom 5 looks from the past week, but we also want to hear your thoughts. Yahoo Canada Readers, take a look at some of the fashion looks that graced the red carpet this week, then vote for which stars should be named best and worst dressed, and check back at the end of the week when we'll publish the results and determine the winners and, sadly, losers.
Best: Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson looked like a winner when she arrived at the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards last Friday in a form-fitting, hot pink Alex Perry dress with long slit sleeves and shoulder pads. It was also on brand for the “Stronger” singer, who won the award for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series for the fourth year in a row for “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
Stylist Michaela Erlanger created the look by outfitting the 42-year-old with jeweled teardrop earrings, glamorous makeup and a fluffy, low bun.
Worst: Rihanna
Rihanna recently announced her latest project (no, not new music yet), Fenty Hair, and opted for a bold crimson look at the product line's launch party in LA on Monday. The 36-year-old paired a loose half-zip leather jacket with a maxi pencil skirt by Khaite. She paired the look with matching red heels and ruby and diamond jewelry by Sabyasachi, David Webb, and Leza.
While we wouldn't necessarily choose to walk the sweaty red carpet in this head-to-toe leather look in LA at the start of summer, we're big fans of the close-cropped, natural blonde curls the “Umbrella” singer sported at the event.
Best: Maya Hawke
While some may be put off by Maya Hawke's open embrace of her “nephew privilege,” we think she deserves a round of applause after stepping out in such a vibrant outfit. Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman's daughter looked like an emerald jewel in a Prada gown adorned with brass and crystal detailing.
The 25-year-old wore the dress to the world premiere of the film Inside Out 2, in which she voices the new character Anxiety. She paired the dress with black floral Prada sandals and opted for a casual yet elegant hair and makeup look.
Worst: Jessica Chastain
At the TriBeCa Film Festival, Jessica Chastain looked as if she'd quit her job as an office receptionist to walk the event's red carpet, especially after she posed beneath the Indeed logo. The 47-year-old wore a tweed A-line Gucci dress with a plunging neckline and short sleeves. She wore her trademark red hair in a low bun and accessorized with pointy-toed black slingback heels at the “The Knife” premiere on Sunday.
Grand Prize Winner: Jodie Comer
Jodie Comer looked stunning in a custom burgundy gown by Vivienne Westwood as she attended a screening of her new film, The Bikers, in London. The 31-year-old looked clean and refined at Tuesday's event, showing off her figure in the corseted, off-the-shoulder dress while also showing off a little cleavage. The actress paired the sexy look with gold Rosie sandals by Jimmy Choo and simple, tiny earrings by Frida and Florence.
Worst: Blake Lively
The outfits worn by celebrities at Chanel's 17th Annual TriBeCa Festival Artist Dinner make me want to snooze in a pajama set, too. Blake Lively's multicolored suit from the fashion house was loud, and made me want to swipe my eyes from one double “C” monogram to the next, but it also looked like the kind of pre-wrapped loungewear set you'd pick up as a last-minute holiday gift at your local department store.
The 36-year-old also showed off bold nails designed by Japanese nail artist Mei Kawajiri, which featured intricate illustrations that matched her outfit. The former Gossip Girl star's many rings added some unnecessary sparkle, but her naturally wavy hair and glamorous makeup looked as irresistible as ever.
Best: Nicola Coughlan
Nicola Coughlan has done it again. The Bridgerton star, who appeared on our Best Dressed Celebrity Fashion List last week, wrapped up the press tour for her Netflix show on Wednesday in a glamorous custom Botticelli-inspired dress by Rodarte. The 37-year-old teamed the pink-toned sequined dress with burgundy velvet gloves, a floor-length veil and platform pumps. She finished off her London look with diamond and ruby Chopard jewelry and her trademark red Artists4Ceasefire pin.
Worst: Kristen Wiig
Kristen Wiig looked a little overweight at the Despicable Me premiere in New York City on Sunday. The 50-year-old showed up to the event wearing a black Adam Lips crop top and a black tulle dress embroidered with silver rhinestones. Stylist Karla Welch paired the comedian's Fall 2024 ready-to-wear outfit with pale pink high heels and opted for a simple silver ring as her accessory.
Best: Simone Ashley
When you have a face like Simone Ashley, it's pretty hard to walk the red carpet and not look like a star. The 29-year-old made an appearance at the end of a screening of “Bridgerton” season 3 part 2 in London on Wednesday in a pair of see-through peach lingerie. She looked effortlessly radiant in a Delkor ready-to-wear pair, paired with Louboutin Rosalie sandals and Suzanne Karan jewelry.
The Sex Education star wore her gorgeous dark waves swept over her shoulders and elevated her casual chiffon look with the most glamorous makeup.
Worst: Nia Long
Pajamas graced the red carpet again (yes, again) this week: Nia Long attended the American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach, Florida on Thursday in matching white loungewear with thick, shiny vertical stripes.
The 53-year-old's just-rolled-out-of-bed look was completed with wrinkled trousers and an unbuttoned shirt, and her jewellery was a mix of gold and silver. The “Boyz n the Hood” actress, who was speaking at an event on money and mindfulness during the festival, completed the look with mustard yellow open-toed heels, soft makeup and a sleek, low-cut bun.
