The Associated Press reported on the jury verdict, which shocked the current occupant of the White House, President Joe Biden, and identified his son, Hunter Biden, as the defendant.
“Hunter Biden was convicted Tuesday of all three felony charges related to the 2018 purchase of a revolver after prosecutors alleged the president's son lied on a mandatory gun purchase application about not using illegal drugs or having an addiction.”
The top image in this cartoon gallery by Philip Hands refers to Republicans who said the Delaware jury's verdict was legitimate, even as they complained a few weeks earlier that a New York jury's verdict against former President Donald Trump was fraudulent. Walt Handelsman covers similar themes on both sides of the same sandwich board, Michael Ramirez depicts Biden and Trump comparing charges over drinks, and Joey Weatherford points out the reappearance of Hunter Biden's stolen laptop, which played a key role in the case.
Handelsman has his eye on the presidential election, drawing Uncle Sam in the “National Political Open,” a golf tournament notoriously a grueling test. “It's a tough course,” Sam soliloquizes from shoulder-height rough. The cartoonists also comment on Biden's age and mental state, as well as Trump's remarks about Milwaukee and retaliation.
Other news stories featured in this week's gallery include the controversial secret recordings of Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and John Roberts, Elon Musk's compensation package, the Gaza war, New York Governor Kathy Hochul's abrupt reversal of congestion pricing policies to reduce traffic in New York City, and Father's Day.
The cartoons were drawn by Tribune Content Agency's Jack Orman, Nick Anderson, Bill Bramhall, Dana Summers, Drew Scheinman, Walt Handelsman, David Horsey, Phil Hands, Joel Pett and Joey Weatherford, as well as Creators Syndicate's Mike Luckovich, Steve Breen and Michael Ramirez.
