COLLEGE STATION, Texas (FOX 44) – The George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum will hold its annual Juneteenth commemoration this Tuesday.
The event will take place at the Lincoln Recreation Center and the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center from 9am to 12:30pm and is free and open to the public. According to the Presidential Library and Museum, Juneteenth commemorates the day on June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers led by Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger landed in Galveston to bring news that the war was over and the slaves were freed.
The annual Freedom Walk will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Lincoln Recreation Center and will conclude at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum.
The Juneteenth storytelling portion of the event will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Attendees will experience stories, songs and dance from award-winning storyteller Toni Simmons at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center (across the plaza from the Bush Library & Museum).
