Debate season is here, because that hasn't been the case before. The first presidential debate of this election season between presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump will take place on June 27th at 9pm ET on CNN. This is very early compared to previous presidential debates, the majority of which take place in the early fall prior to the November election.

Although the presidential debate is still early in the election cycle, it has been scheduled since mid-May after President Biden's campaign released a video challenging President Trump to a debate, which the Trump campaign accepted the same day.
On May 30, 2024, Trump became the first former president in U.S. history to be convicted of falsifying business records related to hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. This fact adds to the historic nature of this debate, as it marks the first time a presidential nominee has been convicted of a crime. It is unclear whether Trump will serve any prison time for this crime, but the timing of this debate is all the more noteworthy given the recent news surrounding his conviction.
You thought that was it? Not really. In addition to the earlier date of the presidential debate and Trump's recent conviction, there will be no live audience. Instead, it will take place in CNN's Atlanta studios and will be moderated by CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. Only four candidates are scheduled to attend, although independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. could show up and take part in the debate if his national approval rating rises from 13% to 15%. He will also need to get his name on the ballot in enough states to secure at least 270 electoral votes.
ABC is set to host the second presidential debate between the two on September 10th of this year. At this time, it's unclear what the exact time will be, who else will be participating, or whether there will be an audience.
