Everyone has their go-to restaurant or coffee shop, but one organization wanted to help Tulsans discover other people's favorite establishments.
In our “Best of Tulsa” series, we ask Tulsa residents for their top picks in the city.
While scrolling through social media, you may have stopped to watch this one-minute segment in which some of Oklahoma's finest, from Kristen Chynoweth to Sterling Harjo, talk about the best places in Tulsa with host Luke Leifeste.
Luke had been away for over 10 years, but returned to his hometown of Tulsa a year ago.
“There was this energy of restoration and revitalization coming together to make this city the best it could be, and that in turn gave me a sense of energy that I hadn't felt in a long time, even when I was in New York,” he said. “I was doing big photo shoots with celebrities and being on magazine covers, but in my heart I was thinking about Tulsa.”
That's when he came up with the idea for a segment called “Best of Tulsa” and proposed it to an organization called Experience Tulsa.
“I never set out to host this series,” Luke said.
But his passion for the city makes sense: He gives a voice to the people who make Tulsa the best it can be, from illustrators to restaurant workers.
“I thought Tulsa needed this, we needed a place to celebrate our city, hear local voices and shine a spotlight on local businesses — kind of a platform to put the city back on display,” he said.
For the latest instalment in the series, he chose one of his characters from Oklahoma.
We take meteorologist Travis Meyer out from behind his desk at the Weather Center and ask him what he likes to do outside the office.
Stay tuned to hear his answers – Luke will add another voice to help us all fall in love with our city.
“I see this series as a love letter to Tulsa,” Luke said.
Travis' Best of Tulsa video will be uploaded to the Experience Tulsa Instagram page by the end of the week.
