right.
That's an important question. That's what campaigns want to focus on most: What works for voters? What do voters care about? So we asked, and the top three issues in the poll were: preserving democracy came out on top with 30 percent, inflation with 29 percent and immigration with 19 percent.
So the top two are basically very close. What does that mean? Again, layers of context matter. Let's look at the numbers from February. “Preserving democracy” was still number one at that time with 31 percent.
But I want to draw your attention specifically to this inflation number. Look. This is a big change. We've had democracy for a while, and inflation concerns are up by a whopping six percentage points. This is beyond the margin of error.
So, there's a lot of concern right now about inflation. We ask a lot about the economy and about jobs. But it's not about jobs right now. We know the job market is booming. It's about inflation. And we can say, and we've said on the air, that it's true that inflation is generally down in the United States right now.
The Fed is still concerned, but it's down significantly from the record inflation rates of last year and the year before. But voters are still feeling it. They're still concerned about inflation in their own communities.
