When Ed Sheeran wrote “Shape of You,” he probably wasn't picturing himself sculpted out of sushi ingredients.
The British megastar is just one of a number of celebrities whose image has been recreated by British food artist Michelle Wibowo using ingredients such as rice, salmon and pickled ginger.
Sheeran's fellow singer-songwriter Elton John also underwent an edible transformation for the one-day exhibition in London, as did actor Benedict Cumberbatch and England footballers Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane.
Wibowo, 45, spent about 120 hours creating the grapefruit-sized sculpture using grapefruit, a famous Japanese product.
The unusual creation was exhibited at London's Cassild Art Gallery as part of a collaboration with Japanese food brand Yutaka to mark International Sushi Day on Tuesday.
“I'm used to making sculptures out of unconventional materials, but making one out of sushi ingredients is a whole other story!” Wibowo said in a press release sent to CNN by the organizers.
“It was really interesting to see how many different ingredients go into making sushi and how they can be used to create intricate details on the face and hair.
“I hope you find portraiture as fascinating as I do and that it inspires you to experiment in your own kitchen. Remember, all art is subjective!”
British celebrities have all rebranded themselves sushi style – say hello to Ealton John, Edamame Sheeran and Benedict Cucumberbatch!
“We wanted to create an exhibition that celebrates the diversity and creativity of Japanese cuisine and inspires a spirit of adventure in the home kitchen,” Furukawa Ken, CEO of Tazaki Foods, a leading Japanese food importer and developer that owns the Yutaka brand, said in a press release.
