- The new season of Bridgerton, like its predecessors, has no shortage of exciting scenes.
- The show's makeup artists told Page Six which products passed the “kiss test.”
- A shimmery highlighter, primer and setting spray are best, she says.
Sparkling Regency-era dresses, glittering jewels, and intricate wigs were all the rage in the latest season of Bridgerton.
But one of the hit Netflix show's makeup artists had another job: making sure the actors' makeup looked good during sex scenes.
In an interview with Page Six published on Friday, makeup artist Erika Okvist said the cast had to do a “kiss test” to make sure the makeup would hold up during sexy scenes.
“I want them to look as good when they get off the carriage as they did when they got in,” Oqvist told Page Six, alluding to the much-talked-about meet-the-stars Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton scene in episode four.
Oqvist said she used a primer and setting spray to ensure the makeup was kiss-proof.
Her primer of choice is Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Primer, which, according to Page Six, “makes everything look dreamy.”
This primer sells for $58 at Sephora.
To give actors a fresh, radiant look during intimate scenes, she recommends makeup artist Pat McGrath's Skin Fetish Highlighter and Balm Duo (retail price $50).
“It's a great highlighter to apply on your cheekbones,” Oqvist told Page Six. “When you don't have anything in your pocket but you really just want to look a little bit better, this dual stick is amazing.”
She called the Fenty Match Stix Contour Skinstick and La Roche-Posay Anthelios Sunscreen “the diamonds of the season,” which retail for $32 and $20, respectively.
Oqvist said she also used By Terry's Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Powder ($54) on the stars, which she says doesn't leave a “chabby” finish.
She added that intimate scenes make the actors “feel vulnerable” and it's the makeup artist's job to make them “feel really special and cared for.”
The fifth episode of this season contains the longest sex scene in the show's history, lasting over five and a half minutes.
Coughlan told Entertainment Weekly in April that she and co-star Newton broke “a piece of furniture” while filming a steamy scene, but later clarified on Instagram that the piece was a chaise lounge.
According to entertainment media site TheWrap, season 3 of Bridgerton has garnered 28 million views since the week of June 10, when season 2 was released.
Oqvist did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment sent outside normal business hours.
