Matthew Perry, the iconic star of the TV show Friends, died last year at age 54 from the acute effects of the drug ketamine, according to an autopsy report.
The autopsy report said Perry had been receiving ketamine therapy to treat depression, but the drug's short half-life suggested the ketamine in his system at the time of his death was not from a prescribed treatment, leading investigators to suspect Perry had obtained his fatal dose from another source.
The late actor had serious problems with alcohol and drugs, but was apparently sober for 19 months before his drowning. Perry made no secret about his struggles with substance use disorders during and after his TV appearances. He spoke about his struggles with alcohol and opioids, which were particularly severe after he took prescription Vicodin following a 1997 jet ski accident.
Following Perry's untimely death, police began an investigation into another celebrity who had attended rehab with him. The Los Angeles Police Department, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Postal Inspection Service, launched a criminal investigation in May into the death of Perry, who was found naked and unconscious in his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023.

The unnamed celebrity “gave everything up and cooperated fully.”
“They're basically searching for Matthew's killer,” a source told In Touch. The source added that a famous woman who met Perry while he was in rehab has been brought in for questioning. “She's a famous person too and they met while in rehab. They formed an unlikely friendship,” the source added.
Then the police showed up at the unnamed celebrity's door, sniffing out suspicions. The unnamed celebrity was working out outside when police arrived at her sober living facility with a search warrant. When she returned, she was reportedly “in complete shock and had no idea what a search warrant was.” (In Touch has chosen not to reveal the celebrity's identity due to the ongoing investigation.)
“She claims she had nothing to do with it. [Perry’s death]” a source told In Touch.
“She's keeping quiet about it, but the investigators must know something to get a warrant and turn up like that.”

The celebrity, whose name has not been released, cooperated fully with police and was never handcuffed or arrested. “She has given full custody and is fully cooperative,” the source added.
The exact nature of the police search is unclear, but it is linked to an investigation into how Perry obtained the drugs that led to his death.
