Amazon Business plans to make it easier for large businesses, such as multinational corporations, universities, health networks, and government agencies, to manage online procurement.
“Amazon Business wants to change the way businesses buy supplies through unmatched selection, deep discounts and smart features,” said Shelley Salomon, Worldwide Vice President, Amazon Business.
The new toolset includes:
- Amazon Business App Centeris a global “one-stop shop” that allows businesses to connect their Amazon Business accounts to more than 25 third-party applications for integrated shopping, financial accounting, inventory management, business analytics, loyalty program management, and more.
- Guided Buying Manage employee spending and guide buyers to your organization's preferred purchases. For example, account managers can use the toolbar to highlight preferred products with sustainability certifications.
- Integrated Quote is designed to help businesses create custom quotes for large orders placed through Amazon Business or other suppliers via third-party e-procurement and e-sourcing platforms. According to Amazon, the Unified Quote feature is “ideal for business customers with more than 1,000 items or a total value of more than $10,000.”
- Budget Management According to Amazon, the tool helps businesses manage the setting and review of time-bound budgets across their entire organization. “Business customers can set spending thresholds and make budget amounts visible to buyers to prevent overspending,” Amazon said.
Amazon Business claims to have “approximately $35 billion in total annual sales and more than six million customers worldwide, including 96 of the Fortune 100 companies.”
“One of the features we like most about Amazon Business is the budget management, which gives teachers visibility into their budget so they know how much they have to spend, making it easier to stay within their annual budget,” Greg Long, purchasing manager at Seminole County Public Schools in Sanford, Florida, said in an Amazon Business press release.
Amazon Business adds that it focuses on businesses of all sizes.
“Through unmatched selection, deep discounts, and smart features, Amazon Business wants to transform the way businesses buy supplies – whether it's a local hair salon, global enterprises, schools, nonprofits, hospitals, or government agencies,” the spokesperson said. “Using innovative technology, Amazon Business saves organizations time and money, allowing them to focus resources on what's important.”
Salomon adds, “We're not just responding to our customers' biggest challenges – we're getting ahead of them with new technology, empowering them with the resources they need to weather the unexpected and continue to grow their business.”
Salomon, a more than 20-year veteran of Amazon, was named worldwide vice president of Amazon Business in March after Alexandre Gagnon was placed on leave of absence. Amazon has not commented on Gagnon's future plans, but he still lists his Amazon Business role on his LinkedIn page.
Salomon's most recent role at Amazon was vice president of sales, marketing and business development for Amazon Devices. He also served as vice president of global logistics and delivery technology and president of Endless.com. He joined Amazon in December 2023 as senior finance manager, following a stint as finance manager at Intel, according to his LinkedIn profile.
