On Sunday evening, pro-Hamas protesters physically attacked Jews in front of a Los Angeles synagogue as jihadists called for the genocide of Jews. We have long heard that Jews control Hollywood, the world and the media, yet we see celebrities silent when it comes to anti-Semitism and violent attacks on Israel. In June 2024, Jews are being attacked at universities across the country and American streets are rife with anti-Semitism. I wish Jewish celebrities had even half the courage to speak out for Jews and Israel as random influencers endlessly speak out about “All Eyes on Rafa” and other alleged injustices.
Fellow Jews are celebrating the fact that Jewish celebrity Ben Stiller came out nine months after his October 7th birthday.Number Writing an op-ed in Time magazine saying we cannot be silent and that “war must end” and “hate is bad” is not something to be celebrated for. We should expect more from celebrities than “Hamas's actions are reprehensible and reprehensible.”
Stiller continues: “Anti-Semitism must be condemned wherever and whenever it occurs, as well as Islamophobia and prejudice of any kind.Stiller shouldn't be praised for writing that war and hatred are bad. So what?
Stiller and many of Hollywood's Jewish elite remain silent. What is the expected reaction from the black community when a black church is attacked?
The night of the Academy Awards was another perfect example of what is going wrong: Hollywood stars like singer Billie Eilish, actor Mark Ruffalo and director Ava DuVernay wore pro-Palestinian badges or spoke out about the Palestinian cause, while their Jewish brethren who are supposed to dominate Hollywood remained silent.
He is very disappointed with Jewish stars like Adam Sandler, who has made a career out of playing Jewish stars and even played a role in the blockbuster “Don't Mess with the Zohan.” Sandler said that coming to Israel is his biggest dream, saying, “I've never been to Israel before, and I'm playing the Zohan, so I'm excited to go.”
Israel is at war, Jews are under attack in Los Angeles and around the world, yet Sandler remains shamefully silent. Jews built Hollywood with their sweat and tears, and in an industry with a large Jewish population, one would think that Jews would stand up for their people.
Shame on you, Adam Sandler.
Since October 7, several prominent Jewish figures have spoken out.NumberBut there is little to be praised. Michael Rapaport, Jerry Seinfeld, Debra Messing, Tiffany Kadish, Dr. Phil and Michael Douglas are shining examples of the few celebrities who have spoken out in support of Israel. So are David Schwimmer, Montana Tucker, David Draiman, Mayim Bialik, Sharon Osbourne, Julian Edelman and several others, but many of them are simply not big stars.
Whether it's because we fear backlash or because we simply don't care, we don't care. Jews too must demand that our celebrities speak out, and if they don't, we will pay the price from our community. There are very few worthy of praise, and in fact the majority of Hollywood Jews who are vocal are anti-Israel.
Many of these stupid Jewish celebrities talk about plastic straws not damaging the oceans, fossil fuels, the importance of Tibet, Sudan, and the entire world's humanity, and the national rights of all people except the Jews.
Harvard professor Ruth Wisse said: “The rapid demoralization of Jews in the face of anti-Zionism shows the depth of the impact of the past, for many still fail to achieve the simple self-respect that the Jewish people have been unable to achieve as a collective since the dawn of modernity.”
As the Talmud says, “The Jews are the sons and daughters of kings,” we Jews are the sons and daughters of the first king and queen, Abraham and Sarah. These “celebrity” Jews forget that the Jewish people are the chosen people, the descendants of royalty.
As a proud Jew who works with many celebrities, I recognize the famous quote from NBA legend Charles Barkley in a Nike commercial: “I'm not a role model. I'm not paid to be a role model. Parents should be role models. Just because I can dunk on a basketball doesn't mean I should raise my kids that way.”
Just because a person is famous doesn't mean that we, as Jews, should respect him. He doesn't have that right yet.
