MSNBC host Joy Reid She urged viewers not to believe the “nonsense” that “rich people” vote “against their own economic interests” and slammed the former president. Donald Trump's Wealthy supporters who prioritize “tax cuts” over “democracy.”
In the opening monologue Lead-out On Monday night, the host criticized “America's billionaires” for “stepping on each other” and “kissing Trump's ring” to gain support for the Republican candidate.
Reid: America's billionaires, oil, gas, tech, media and others are jostling each other to get in front of Donald Trump and give him millions of dollars in campaign contributions to get him back to the White House. And instead of going door-to-door with hat in hand to solicit bribes, Trump is offering them deregulation, including drilling on public lands. This is one of two things to understand about the upcoming election.
The other is the massive tax cuts that Donald Trump signed in 2017, during his first year in office. It was a dream that then-House Speaker Paul Ryan had nurtured for most of his adult life, but it is set to expire on New Year's Eve next year, December 31, 2025. President Biden has vowed to let the tax cuts expire, but Trump has vowed not only to keep them but to increase them. That means billionaires can gobble up more tax cuts. That's why all the other billionaires are kissing Trump's ring, and so are many rich people who aren't billionaires, including rappers. It's all about making money. They don't care about democracy or the right to vote or women's rights. In fact, democracy and voting are inconvenient for the super-rich, because when people have a choice, they almost always choose to tax the rich. Don't believe the nonsense that people vote against their own economic interests. People who vote for Trump and other Republicans are richer than average. They're not poor.
