The battleground state of Georgia will host the first debate of 2024 between Republican and Democratic presidential candidates, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, seeking a second term, on Thursday night, broadcast live from Atlanta.
On Wednesday's “Closer Look,” host Rose Scott speaks with WABE political reporter Rahul Bali and Tammy Greer, clinical assistant professor at Georgia State University.
Burr joined the program from the State Capitol ahead of a Biden campaign press conference that was attended by prominent Trump opponents, including former Illinois Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger, former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan and Jan. 6 Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn.
Bali provided updates on the debate and highlighted efforts by both sides to get more votes in the Atlanta area.
Next, we hear from Tammy Greer, clinical assistant professor at Georgia State University, who will talk about the presidential debates from a national perspective, what's at stake for each candidate, whether voters care about the debates, and how they influence who wins the presidential election.
Greer also explained that political polls do not necessarily provide meaningful insight into the people, stressing the importance of all Georgians exercising their right to vote, and urged voters to pay close attention to the debates as they are likely to be a key indicator of how the candidates will govern.
