Function, a whole-body wellness company, announced it has secured $53 million in a Series A funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) Bio + Health.
The round included participation from actors Matt Damon, Kevin Hart, Zac Efron and Pedro Pascal, as well as contributions from podcast host Jay Shetty, athletes Jimmy Rollins, Blake Griffin and Colin Kaepernick, and NBA player Joel Embiid's Embiid Ventures.
Other investors include Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel, Dr. Casey Means, Seed co-founder Ara Katz, Equinox Chairman Harvey Spevak and Jeff Dean, and former Ola CEO Harpreet Singh Rai.
What it does
Function users take over 100 clinical tests and receive a detailed summary of their overall health from their doctor based on the results. The tests include biomarkers that help monitor early signs of disease.
Function's platform allows users to view test results, access physician summaries and insights, and get food and supplement recommendations.
The company says the aim is to track test results over time and uncover health trends. Tests can be taken once or twice a year, or on demand.
The Texas-based company plans to use the funding to expand its platform.
“Early cancer detection is important. Preventing heart disease is important. Understanding hormones is important. This investment will enable us to scale this innovative approach to billions of people,” said Dr. Mark Hyman, co-founder of Function and founding director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine.
