ST. LOUIS – A teenager has been indicted on felony charges in connection with a series of thefts that targeted businesses primarily in St. Louis city and county in April.
Prosecutors with the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office charged 18-year-old Mekelle Walker with five counts of theft, eight counts of first-degree burglary and six counts of first-degree criminal damage to property. All but two of the charges were classified as felonies.
According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Walker is accused of being “possessing a firearm” and conspiring with others to commit a series of thefts in St. Louis City and St. Louis County on April 27, April 28 and June 11.
The group allegedly stole $750 in cash or merchandise from at least five businesses, including four on Delmar Boulevard, between April 27 and 28. The group reportedly tried unsuccessfully to pry open the door of one store with a crowbar and broke windows to gain entry and steal from several others. All of the reported incidents were captured on surveillance cameras.
On June 11, Walker and his accomplices broke the windows of two more businesses in St. Louis, stealing more than $750 in cash and merchandise from both businesses before fleeing.
A warrant has been issued for Walker's arrest, and a judge ordered him held without bail upon his arrest. Court documents do not say whether Walker is in jail.
According to Missouri court records, prosecutors have not yet filed charges against Walker or the other suspects in the St. Louis County thefts.
