Donald Trump and Joe Biden are set to face off in a debate in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday night in their first head-to-head battle of the 2024 election cycle.
The showdown will take place at 9:00 pm ET and will be broadcast live from CNN's studios and hosted by the network's anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.
In what is sure to be as nasty as the two showdowns before the pandemic-torn 2020 election, Republican Trump wasted no time in going on the offensive, sneering on Wednesday that the president would be ecstatic that fact-checkers wouldn't be there because he's a “lying machine.”
Trump and his allies in the conservative media have also argued beforehand that the debate will not be a fair fight, alleging without evidence that the moderators are biased and that Biden will use performance-enhancing drugs.
Meanwhile, a new poll finds Trump leading Biden in a head-to-head race among Texas voters by just 5 points: A University of Texas at Tyler poll conducted June 11-20 showed Trump's approval rating at 48% and Biden's at 43%.

Trump predicts low approval ratings in Texas poll
In a head-to-head contest, polls of likely voters showed Trump with 48% to Biden's 43%.
Trump won Texas by 5.58 percentage points in 2020, the lowest percentage of the vote by a Republican candidate since 1996. The last Democrat to win the state in a presidential election was Jimmy Carter in 1976.
When the question included other candidates, the poll of likely voters conducted June 11-20 found that independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had 8% support, compared with 41% for Biden and 47% for Trump.
The poll of registered voters showed 38% backing Biden and 46% backing Trump, with Kennedy receiving the support of 12% of registered voters.
In a head-to-head race among registered voters, excluding third-party and independent candidates, 40 percent supported Biden and 46 percent supported Trump.
