of Hollywood Walk of FameWhat began as a marketing project in 1960 has now become a tourist attraction, welcoming 10 million visitors a year. Initially only four categories were allowed: film, radio, recordings and television. A fifth category, theatrical or live performance, was added in 1984, and a sixth category, sports entertainment, is due to be added in 2023.
To date, the boulevard is home to 2,783 stars, with several more set to be added with the announcement of the 2025 Hollywood Walk of Fame Class.
Who was chosen?
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce's Walk of Fame Selection Committee received hundreds of nominations, which the committee narrowed down to 36 recipients. Anyone can nominate a celebrity, including fans. Application requirements include a photo, a two-page biography of qualifications, and a $250 application fee. Nominated celebrities must also submit a release stating that they agree to receive recognition if selected. There are special requirements for groups and duos.
Recipients are selected based on achievements in their field, career length, and contributions to the community. The committee also takes into consideration the celebrity's likelihood of attending the ceremony if selected. Deceased celebrities may be nominated up to two years after their death.
On June 24, committee Chairman Steven Nissen announced the 2025 inductees at a press conference alongside Walk of Famers Jimmy Jam, Joe Mantegna and Niecy Nash. The inductees are:
Film: Bill Duke, Colin Farrell, Emilio Estevez, Glynn Turman, Jane Fonda, Jessica Chastain, John Carpenter, Lisa Lu, Nia Long, Robert Englund, Toni Vaz

When does the ceremony take place?
All nominees are required to set a date for their induction ceremony within up to two years. If that time passes without a ceremony taking place, the opportunity is lost and they must reapply to be considered. Star recipients are required to pay $75,000 in sponsorship fees. According to Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez, the money will cover the construction, installation and maintenance of the star, as well as security and photography during the ceremony. “It's a tourist attraction. It's not all free, but it's a free event for fans to attend,” Martinez said.
Dates for induction ceremonies are usually announced 10 days before the event, and fans can find more information about upcoming events on the official Walk of Fame website.
