Sir Elton John was among a crop of stars who backed the Labour Party on Saturday as Sir Keir Starmer rallied London volunteers in the final stages of the 2024 election campaign.
The veteran singer appeared in a video message alongside her husband, David Furnish, before the Labor leader spoke to more than 350 supporters at the Royal Horticultural Hall near Victoria.
Sir Elton declared: “I will be rooting for Labour to win the July 4th election.”
Others who spoke in the video included actors Kit Harington and James Norton, singer Beverley Knight, Dragons' Den businesswoman Deborah Meaden, The Only Way Is Essex's Georgia Harrison and comedian Jason Manford.
At the Labour rally, Mumford's fellow comedian Bill Bailey spoke in person, joking that he had shaved his head to emphasise that “it's time for change”, while TV presenter June Sapong hosted.
Mr Harrington said he would vote Labour because he felt they had the “practical plan” needed to face the climate crisis.
“The situation is too unstable to afford another 14 years of Conservative power,” he said.
Norton, a stage, film and television actor who has appeared in films such as Happy Valley, Grantchester, War and Peace and McMafia, said he “supports Labour's ambition to make the arts accessible to all children, particularly its ambition in relation to the school curriculum and its ambition to put the arts back into children's lives”.
Knight, the soul singer and Olivier Award-winning actress, added: “I support Labour's goal of enabling every child to pursue their passion in a creative field because I was one of those children myself.”
Sir Keir, along with his wife Victoria, shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves, deputy leader Angela Rayner and London Mayor Sadiq Khan, warned against complacency despite Labour's large lead over the Conservatives in opinion polls.
“British people want change but their hopes have been all but dashed,” he said, calling the final week of the campaign “the hardest mile”.
“If you vote for Labour on Thursday I can promise you we will get to work on reform straight away,” he said.
But he warned: “Imagine, if you dare, waking up on July 5th to find the Conservatives in power.”
“If we take our foot off the gas and people think they have it all, that can happen. There are millions of voters who are still undecided. It can happen.”
