Joe Biden has admitted he “failed” during last week's disastrous CNN presidential debate with Donald Trump in Atlanta, Georgia, and pressure continues to mount for him to resign, especially amid unsettling polls in key battleground states.
“It was a terrible night,” the president told a Wisconsin radio host on Thursday.
“And the fact is, I screwed up. I made a mistake. It was 90 minutes onstage. Think about what I've done in three and a half years.”
Biden on Wednesday strongly denied dropping out of the race and met with Democratic governors to reassure them he was ready to go back on the campaign trail.
Meanwhile, Trump has appeared pleased with himself, posting videos on Truth Social in which he falsely claims the embattled president has already dropped out of the race for the White House, calls him a “broken motherfucker” and mocks Vice President Kamala Harris as “pathetic.”
Republican presidential candidates have largely resisted the temptation to step back into the spotlight in recent days, preferring to wait for the crisis engulfing Democrats over Biden's health and fitness to serve another term to run its course.
Biden has tried to hold onto the party's support by telling Democrats he had undergone a medical check-up after his disastrous debate defeat.
I would like to provide a little more detail on the contents of the phone call between the president and the governors that I mentioned earlier. The president revealed that he had undergone a medical examination following the incident in Georgia last week and was found to be in good health.

Noem says Americans can't relate to Harris
Conservatives seem to absolutely hate Kamala Harris for “laughing it out loud,” but if there's one person who should probably keep quiet about being “relatable,” it's South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, who thought telling the world she killed her dog would be a sure way to win votes.

New poll finds Michelle Obama is the only Democrat who can beat Trump
The former first lady remains a popular Democratic presidential candidate among voters, leading Trump 50 percent to 39 percent in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday.
The same poll found that Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom and Gretchen Whitmer would all narrowly lose to criminally loud Republicans in a hypothetical showdown.
Mr Obama has repeatedly denied getting involved in politics, and a spokesman reiterated that claim to NBC yesterday, saying: “As former First Lady Michelle Obama has stated many times over the years, she has no intention of running for president.”
“It has to be in your soul, because it's so important. It's not in my soul.”
This is Martha McHardy About the threat Obama poses to Trump if she changes her mind.
