What Bethney Frankel said about the Hamptons' demographics
Earlier this week, Frankel shared a video on TikTok entitled: “Doocy Hampton” In the video, Frankel said the area “It's a wonderful mix of farm, beach and forest…”
Frankel further explained: “There are all kinds of people here. Not just rich people, but all kinds of people.”
“There’s a big Latino community here… well, [an] “It's an African-American community with beautiful homes right on the beach,” she explained.
Ultimately, Frankel explained that the Hamptons' appeal is similar to that of Coachella, but it's still a “family-oriented place” where people who are truly connected to the area visit “year-round.”

Mixed reactions shared on social media
Social media users responded to Frankel's comments about the Hamptons' demographics in The Shade Room's comments section, with many thinking he was disrespecting the African-American and Latino communities when he said the Hamptons is “not just for wealthy people.”
Instagram user @maddyfamilia wrote: “So black and Latino people can't get rich? Well, no…”
Instagram user @willyssworld added: “So the Latino community and the black people there are not the wealthy ones. Got it.”
Instagram user @iamboyjames wrote: “Oh wow. So “rich” only means white people. Okay.
Instagram user @shortymackatl added: “Did she say “There's not only rich people, there's Latinos and black people too”? Sorry, who's rich? 🤦🏽♀️🫠 I think everyone up there is rich. Are you saying only white people are rich in the Hamptons? 🧐”
Instagram user @notesfromnessie wrote: ““It's giving away 'black jobs'…”

But some believe Frankel's words have been misconstrued.
Instagram user @urbansoulsuite wrote: “People are taking this out of context… She is literally saying “it's not just rich white people” and not saying black and latino people aren't rich. You all know what she means but you want to make it something else. I don't care about Bethenny one bit but I saw what she meant…”
Instagram user @_chukwuemeka44_ added: “The woman said that the African-American community is building big houses on the beach. Is everyone so slow? Is everyone so easily offended? Let me tell you a joke, you guys are so exhausting.”
Instagram user @blkbarbs wrote: “I'm not a fan of Bethany's but I feel like she was trying to explain that the Hamptons isn't just for rich white people. It's a diverse place with other ethnicities. But correct me if I'm wrong 🤣”
New entrepreneur sparks backlash for ignoring demographics
Frankel isn't the only one to have faced backlash for her comments: As The Shade Room previously reported, Missouri restaurateur Marvin Pate made headlines in June when he and his wife opened a restaurant that only accepted women over 30 and men over 35.
At the time, Pate explained that he wanted to create a space for “older people” free from “young people causing drama.” While the restaurateur may have meant well, some social media users believe the entrepreneur is promoting discrimination.
In response to the backlash, Pate took a further step, saying that he and his team are “open to” similar criticism and that “[stick] Follow their code.”
