Actor Shannen Doherty, known for her roles in TV shows such as “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Charmed,” He died at the age of 53, according to People and The Independent.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. She passed away on Saturday, July 13, after a long battle with cancer,” Doherty's publicist, Leslie Sloane, told People on Sunday.
“A devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend, she was surrounded by loved ones and her beloved dog, Bowie. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time so they can grieve in peace,” Sloane added.
Business Insider reached out to other representatives for Sloan and Doherty but did not immediately receive a response.
Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and has been open about her health journey over the years. As part of her treatment, she underwent anti-estrogen therapy, a lumpectomy, a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. In 2017, Doherty announced on Instagram that she was in remission from the disease.
During an appearance on “Good Morning America” in February 2020, the actress revealed that her cancer had recurred the previous year and had spread to other organs, making it metastatic stage 4.
“The best example that I can continue to set for other cancer patients and for people in the outside world who don't have cancer is to show up for cancer patients: we are employable,” Doherty told Variety in 2021 while talking about her acting career.

Dougherty was born on April 12, 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Her professional acting career began in the '80s with roles in TV series such as “Father Murphy,” “Magnum P.I.,” and “Little House on the Prairie.” Doherty also appeared in a few TV movies before making her acting debut in the cult classic film “Heathers,” in which she played Heather Duke, one of three popular girls with the same name.
Doherty's breakthrough came when she played Brenda Walsh in the teen drama series 90210.
The Fox series ran for 10 seasons and spawned a franchise that also included “90210.” In 2019, she reprised her role as Brenda in the revival series “BH90210,” which lasted for one season.
She then played the witch Prue Halliwell in the TV series Charmed, which ran for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006. In 2014, she competed in season 10 of Dancing with the Stars.
Her recent roles include appearing in the “Heathers” reboot series and a guest role in “Riverdale” season 4. She also filmed three movies back-to-back in 2021: “Dying to Belong,” “List of a Lifetime,” and “The Fortress.”
In late 2023, Doherty revealed that the cancer had spread to her bones, but said on her podcast, “Let's Be Clear,” that “it's not the end of living yet.”
