Whether it's a nickname given to them by a family member or a variation of their real name, these celebrities prefer to go by a different name than their close friends. In fact, some celebrities actually prefer to use the name they had when they started their careers, and they hope their fans will use the name they prefer too.

1. Anne Hathaway
The world knows Anne Hathaway Although she was called Anne when she was still a teenager, no one ever called her Anne in private. Instead, everyone called her Annie. Looking back, she says she'd been called that nickname her whole life, but when it came time to get her SAG card, she thought it was time to use her official name. She never expected the world to call her Anne instead of Annie.
“It seemed like the right choice, but I never thought that for the rest of my life people would call me 'Ann'. The only person who calls me 'Ann' is my mom. And the only time she calls me that is when she's really upset. Really upset. Every time I'm out in public and someone calls me by my name, I think they're going to yell at me,” she said. She prefers to be called by her real name, Emily, but because her real name was already registered with the Screen Actors Guild, she decided to go by Emma. She says most people around her call her Emily or “M,” and she's happy that her fans call her that, too.
“I changed it to Emma because it's closer to Emily, but most people who know me well call me 'M,'” she told W magazine. “But I miss Emily. I want her back.”
