Three major national polls released on Sunday morning, July 14, show Joe Biden still in a close race with Donald Trump, despite his disastrous performance in the debate. These polls, by CBS News, Fox News and NBC News, were conducted before the assassination attempt on Donald Trump on Saturday, July 13.
Biden's approval rating hasn't dropped significantly in any of the surveys. The drop in approval rating that Democrats feared after the presidential debates hasn't shown up in the polls. But it's worth noting that Biden is still trailing Trump by a narrow margin after the debates and ahead of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week.

What are recent national polls saying?
A recent national poll showed Trump leading Biden by just one point, 49 percent to 48 percent, according to Fox News data. The previous poll in mid-June had Biden leading by two points, but that change is within the poll's margin of error.
An NBC News poll has Trump leading Biden 45 percent to 43 percent. The previous survey in April had the presumptive Republican nominee leading by two points.
The CBS News poll, which surveyed voters in seven key Electoral College battleground states, found Trump leading 50 percent to 48 percent, up from 51 percent to 48 percent just a week ago.
Biden's performance against Trump in the presidential debates has unsettled Democrats and led to calls for him to drop out of the race, but the president has stood his ground, saying he has no plans to back out and will return to the stage for the second debate with Trump.
Biden's frequent public gaffes and absent-mindedness have raised concerns about his age: An NBC News poll found that 79% of voters were very or moderately concerned that the 81-year-old Biden doesn't have the “mental and physical health necessary to serve a second term as president.” Just 50% said the same about the 78-year-old Trump.
At this point, it's too early to tell whether the assassination attempt on President Trump will change the poll results. Only time will tell.
