US President Joe Biden could forgo reelection if his doctor clears him of any health issues after testing positive for COVID-19, a senior Democratic official said on Wednesday.
For the first time, Biden appeared to hint at the idea of giving up on the White House race, after Rep. Adam Schiff, a key ally in California, urged him to “pass the baton.”

“President Trump's re-election would undermine the very foundations of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the president can defeat Donald Trump in November,” Schiff said.
Speaking to the Black Media Bed“If I were to develop some kind of medical condition and someone, a doctor, came in and said, 'You've got this problem, you've got that problem,'” Biden said.

“I said I was going to be the interim candidate and I thought I could get out of this situation and hand it over to somebody else, but I didn't expect things to become as divisive as they have,” he said. AFP News.
Biden has been fighting for political survival since his disastrous debate defeat against Donald Trump nearly three weeks ago, during which he appeared tired and confused and raised concerns about his age. He was scheduled to make a new attempt to promote his candidacy later Wednesday when he addressed key Hispanic voters in the battleground state of Nevada.
Biden tests positive for COVID-19
Biden tested positive for COVID-19 while on a trip to Las Vegas for the presidential campaign and experienced mild symptoms, including “general fatigue.” He will now fly back to his home in Delaware and “self-isolate,” while continuing to carry out his duties.
Biden previously tested positive for COVID-19 twice, once during the 2022 primaries and once after reinfecting with the virus.
