The legendary presidential yacht Honey Fitz It was listed for charter at the Pelican Club in Jupiter, Fla. Managed and owned by Lessing's Hospitality Group, the waterfront venue offers several packages allowing guests to enjoy the storied 93-foot vessel dockside or within Jupiter Inlet.
The historic vessel was originally built by the Defoe Boat and Motor Works in Bay City, Michigan, and delivered to Montgomery Ward businessman Sewell Avery in 1931. LenoirInitially called the “Presidential Yacht,” the vessel later assumed the role of the “Presidential Yacht.” The vessel was used by five former U.S. leaders, including Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, and John F. Kennedy.
The yacht's name has changed four times, but JFK is the lasting one. Honey FitzKennedy was reportedly given the nickname in honor of his maternal grandfather, John Francis Fitzgerald. Kennedy went on frequent cruises. Honey Fitz I stayed there with my family. Former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis renovated the interior in the early 1960s.
In 1971, the U.S. government Honey Fitz Since then, the ship has undergone many repairs and fallen into disrepair until entrepreneur Charles R. Modica came across it by chance in 2020. Determined to stop the nearly century-old cruiser from completely deteriorating, he and his team underwent an extensive three-year restoration, restoring it to its former glory. Historical working parts from the 1930s, World War II and presidential years from 1945 to 1971 can still be seen throughout the ship.
