Chicago – River North business owners are fed up with the city after a second theft in two weeks.
Gold Coast Markets posted CCTV footage on its Instagram page in the early hours of Tuesday morning, showing four men getting out of a grey vehicle.
One of the men tried to break into the store with a sledgehammer, while the other had a gun and pointed it at someone. Fortunately, the store owner said the gunman was unable to break into the store and no one was injured.
In a separate incident earlier this month, nine suspects broke into the same store and stole thousands of dollars worth of premium liquor.
The shop owner believes the city does not have enough police officers and that officers are not deployed when they are needed.
“Everything they're doing can be replaced, with a little bit of money, they can accept the economic loss and fix it, but for them to be pointing a gun at somebody across the street was like redlining. Someone could have lost their life yesterday for no reason and it just felt like the city is doing a really bad job,” Gold Coast Market co-founder Hani Falestin Houla said.
Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact Area 3 detectives.
