SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Several Democratic House members who were in Rhode Island on Friday to discuss offshore wind shared their thoughts on the 2024 presidential election.
New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told 12 News she is excited to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president.
“I'm proud to endorse President Biden and I'm equally proud to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, and I'm so pleased that we can move forward together,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
A recent New York Times/Siena poll of likely voters showed former President Donald Trump leading Harris by one point.
“Her approval rating has gone up a lot,” Magaziner said. “Her favorability ratings are good, they've really improved and may even go up.”
Ocasio-Cortez echoed similar sentiments, saying the support for Harris was “encouraging and wonderful.”
“The polls don't vote,” she added. “The people vote.”
The representatives spoke to 12News during a visit to the University of Rhode Island organized by Magaziner.
The lawmakers attended a panel to learn how offshore wind power has been used in the Maritime States and how the renewable energy source could potentially be used in their states.
Other MPs in attendance were:
- California Congressman Jared Huffman
- California Congresswoman Nanette Barragan
- California Assemblyman Saldo Carbajal
- New Mexico State Representative Melanie Stansbury
- North Carolina State Rep. Deborah Ross
