Travis Kelsey has landed another hosting gig: Three-time Super Bowl champion Travis Kelsey will lead a spinoff of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”
Kelce's iteration of the game show — “Are You Smarter than Celebrities?” After successfully hosting “Saturday Night Live” last year and starring on the short-lived “E!” in 2016 , this will be the famous tight end's first appearance in a television series. Romance reality show “Catching Kelce.'' Amazon's Prime Video on Tuesday ordered 20 episodes of a new series produced by MGM Alternatives, a division of Amazon-MGM Studios.
“I grew up loving game shows, so I'm excited to follow in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my first show, 'Are you Smarter than a Celebrity,'” said the multi-faceted actor. Star said in a statement. “The original show has been a huge success, so bringing a new format with everyone's favorite celebrities on screen will definitely be interesting.”
The host of the New Heights podcast, which went viral earlier this year when fans of his girlfriend Taylor Swift shamelessly resurfaced his old tweets, said: “I'm going to take the host side of the equation here.'' Barry Poznick, general manager of MGM Alternatives and co-creator of the series, called Kelce “the ultimate clown.”
Lauren Anderson, head of unscripted and targeted programming for AVOD originals at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the 34-year-old athlete's “natural, comedic dynamic,” adding that Kelce was “a man on the field.” He has proven to be an incredible talent both inside and outside of the country.”
“We are grateful for the trust he has placed in us in our first foray into television,” she added.
“Are You Smarter than the Celebrities?” offers a “new loud twist” on the original format of the early 2000s game show. The spin-off will feature adult contestants in each game, using the classrooms of famous people from stage, film and sport to answer 11 questions taken from the primary school curriculum. The grand prize is $100,000.
Prime Video said in a statement: “They are not in competition with the stars, they seek their cooperation, and in some cases they can even 'swindle' them from them.” For the final question at the sixth grade level, with a prize of $100,000, contestants will choose one of their celebrity girlfriends to discuss their answers before finalizing their answers.
A debut date has not been announced, but Prime Video says the series will premiere in more than 240 countries and territories.
The US version of the Emmy-nominated Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? is hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy and quizzes adults on fifth-grade math, science, and history. The question was posed. Co-produced by Poznick and John Stephens, it premiered in 2007 to a record 27 million viewers.
