The Republican National Committee and former President Donald Trump's campaign announced a new effort Friday to send thousands of people to monitor vote counting in swing states during the presidential election.
Republicans aim to recruit 100,000 volunteers to monitor the voting process and report fraud, as well as lawyers to quickly respond if problems arise with vote counting.
“The RNC employs hundreds of election integrity staffers across the country, more than ever before, because our party will “We plan to hire thousands more observers to protect this year's vote.” “Campaign officials in each state are responsible for recruiting, training and, where possible, replacing poll watchers and poll workers on a daily basis.”
The operation plans to establish election integrity hotlines in every battleground state and create command centers where lawyers will respond to calls from volunteers.
Training sessions will also be held monthly to monitor voting sites and vote counting centers, the release said.
The Trump campaign and RNC are calling it “the most extensive and monumental election integrity program in American history.”
David Becker, CBS News election law contributor and founder of the Center for Election Innovation Research, said that in any jurisdiction in the country, people are allowed to observe the voting and vote-counting process, but they are not allowed to intervene. He says he is not allowed to do so.
Becker doubts whether Republicans will be able to gather as many volunteers for the effort as they claim. “Transparency in elections is a good thing,” Becker said. “But I can't remember a single presidential election in recent memory that didn't include a promise to mobilize thousands of poll watchers, which never materialized.”
The program was organized by the Trump campaign, newly appointed RNC Chairman Michael Whatley, Lara Trump, and RNC Chief Counsel Charlie Spieth. Before President Trump selected him as RNC chairman, Whatley served as North Carolina Republican Party chairman, working on election integrity initiatives.
His history of making these efforts is motivating factors President Trump chose him to replace Ronna McDaniel as party chair.
The announcement confirms former President Donald Trump's efforts to refocus the RNC on election integrity, something he felt previous party leaders failed to achieve during the 2020 election. Ta.
Despite President Trump's focus on the issue, there was no evidence of widespread fraud during the 2020 election. Trump currently faces federal and state charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
The Democratic National Committee has accused President Trump of trying to undermine the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
“Donald Trump knows he is fighting a losing battle, so he is working with a hand-picked team of election deniers at the RNC to undermine our democracy and make baseless claims about election fraud. “We are once again laying the groundwork for spreading lies,” said Alex Floyd, DNC rapid response director. In a press release.
