President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, while bound by the White House and courts, respectively, have sent campaign agents to New Hampshire. The campaign highlights a very different issue on the Granite State's path. Republican North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum is back in familiar territory. He spent a significant amount of time in New Hampshire last year as a presidential candidate. He has now returned to advocate for Trump to return to the White House. “We know that under President Trump, the world was at peace, our borders were secure, and our economy was strong,” Burgum said. “Now, under Joe Biden, it's just the opposite. We have open borders. Our cities are less safe.” >> Download the free WMUR app Stay informed on the go: Apple | Google Play < President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are bound by the White House and courts, respectively, but have sent campaign representatives to New Hampshire. These campaigns focus on very different issues on the Granite State's trails. Republican North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum is back in familiar territory. He spent a significant amount of time in New Hampshire last year as a presidential candidate. He has now returned to advocate for Trump to be returned to the White House. “We know that under President Trump, the world was at peace, our borders were secure, and our economy was strong,” Burgum said. “Now, under Joe Biden, we have exactly the opposite situation. We have an open border policy. Our cities are becoming less safe.” >> Download the free WMUR app and get updates on the go: Apple | Google Play < In addition to concerns about illegal immigration, economic issues will also accelerate Trump's victory in November, Burgum said. “If you had savings, 30% of their value has disappeared in the last three years because inflation came like a thief in the night and stole it,” Burgum said. “So as much as Joe Biden is trying to say everything's okay, we can't get out of these economic problems.” In Concord, the Biden campaign emphasized the power of women leaders and voters in elections and the importance of abortion rights. “President Biden and Vice President (Kamala) Harris have been leading the charge to make sure that Roe v. Wade is codified, and for me, that's what many of us know is there. We knew. And now we have this national abortion ban effort,'” said U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Delaware). Rochester said he cannot trust Trump to maintain a consistent position on abortion. “I always tell people, don't necessarily just listen to what someone says. See what they do,” she said. “His appointment to the Supreme Court led us to where we are today.” New Hampshire is considered an election battleground state, so Granite State residents should expect more proxy visits in the coming months.
