CLAYTON, Mo. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) – Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein was among dozens of people arrested at a pro-Palestinian protest at the University of Washington on Saturday night.
On Saturday night, there were scenes of crowds rallying outside the St. Louis County Jail in Clayton to demand the release of protesters.
The University of Washington announced that a total of 80 pro-Palestinian supporters who refused to leave campus during the demonstration were arrested. Her team said that included Dr. Jill Stein, who was in town to campaign, as well as her campaign manager and deputy campaign director.
“This is about free speech, not just any old free speech, but about free speech on very important issues that require discussion and dialogue. So they sent in riot police, Basically causing a riot.
Our universities are now undergoing fundamental challenges. Who is it for? Are they for war contractors, for a future that will destroy us all and leave us impoverished? Or are we going to uphold the democratic principles that our universities are supposed to represent? ”

The University of Washington announced that those arrested will be charged with trespassing, and some demonstrators will be charged with assault and resisting arrest, including assaulting a police officer.
Dozens of protesters were released before midnight.
