FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) – People in the Freeport area now have a new option to rent trucks, trailers and other moving equipment.
Elite Auto and Tire Inc./Elite Towing & Recovery (1754 N Henderson Rd.) is now Freeport's fourth U-Haul neighborhood dealership. But business leaders say this new venture started with a chance phone call.
As U-Haul's area field manager, Matthew Jones has a side job of communicating with companies interested in U-Haul rentals.
“Actually, I dialed the wrong number. I was trying to call another towing company to resolve my situation,” Jones said. “I called Larry (Tuell), I think it was another vendor, and he said, “Well, I've never done business with any of you before, but I'd be happy to come out and then I'll follow up with you.'' Everything was going towards becoming a vendor, and we started talking about him being a vendor, which led to him becoming a dealer as well. And here we are. ”
Larry Tuell, president of Elite Auto and Tire, said the opportunity was well deserved.
“Honestly, I thought it was a good fit for us,” Tuell said. Tuell also said the partnership will keep profits local.
