(NewsNation) — Third-party candidates are often seen as a threat to Democrats in presidential elections, but a new poll shows Robert F. Kennedy's camp favors former President Donald Trump's 2024 Republican run. It has been suggested that it may be ruined.
While polls show Trump leading all independent candidates by wide margins, his attacks on RFK Jr. have become more intense, calling him a “wasted protest vote” and a “destruction of democracy.” It is called “plant”.
In response, RFK Jr. invited President Trump to debate him on stage, saying, “When a frightened man posts on social media, he risks verbal abuse and it makes him sound unfazed.”
“President Trump's tirade against me is a largely incoherent barrage of wild and inaccurate claims best resolved within the American tradition of presidential debates,” RFK Jr. Posted on.
President Trump's attacks on RFK Jr. over the weekend come as recent polls show the former president narrowly ahead of Biden. Depending on the poll, Trump leads Biden by just 1 to 4 percentage points nationwide, including in most battleground states.
However, with the introduction of RFK Jr., Mr. Trump lost his lead, leaving Mr. Biden in the lead with a two-point lead. This is because more Trump voters are switching to RFK Jr. than Biden voters.
Both the Trump and Biden campaigns are now focused on RFK Jr., with the Biden campaign hiring a full-time staffer solely for the purpose of highlighting the contrast between the president and RFK Jr.
So while the leading candidates don't seem to have the support they need to win the presidential election, they could gather enough support to be a spoiler for either front-runner.
Mr. Kennedy's path forward now relies on a more detailed state-by-state approach, which voting experts say will be difficult but achievable with enough time and money. RFK Jr. said he is currently on the ballot in nine states and is working on New York state next.
