As a fashion editor, I track the passage of seasons by what celebrities wear and when. Right now, my street style barometer is telling me it's time for effortless spring jackets and flowy dresses because Dôen, the celebrity and editor-favorite brand, is back on the scene.
Since bursting onto the scene in 2016, Dôen has specialized in dresses suitable for gyrating through fields at sunset. Floral prints and embroidery are almost a must for every design. So are romantic smocking bodices and flowing skirts. If you were a Hollywood star, you'd walk past the paparazzi wearing this brand with just a sweater wrapped around your shoulders, looking both stripped down and glamorous at the same time. Elle Fanning strolling through Manhattan on the weekend proves my point.
Some news outlets paid close attention to the actress as she strolled hand-in-hand with her boyfriend, Gus Wenner, on Sunday. What interested me was the tag on her Peter Pan collar dress. A quick Google search confirms that Fanning, styled by Samanthan McMillen, chose Doen's Phoebe embroidered dress for the errand. She wore a trench coat casually draped over her shoulders and a pair of classy ballet flats on her feet.
Fanning is just the latest celeb to opt for Dowen's sustainably sourced, insider-approved dress for a casual look. Whether she's working with a stylist or picking out casual outfits herself, A-listers always choose her Dôen to channel their inner Malibu Farmer's Market Goddess. And it seems. Kaia Gerber styled the label's Iski dress with a sheer sweater and Celine sunnies for a walk with Austin Butler. Taylor Swift spent her last “independent” Fourth of July in a blue Doan piece. When Jennifer Lopez wants to take a break from Birkins and sweatsuits, she opts for lace and linen do-and-do dresses. The list goes on.
This is not to say that Dôen dresses can only be worn by Hollywood patrons. For five of the seven years I worked as a fashion editor, I came to the office wearing a version of Dôen's midi dress and blazer. This is my official version of Jennifer Lawrence's easy spring outfits. The smocking and flowing silhouette are comfortable enough to last an entire day at a meeting or assignment, but sophisticated enough to wear in front of co-workers.For warm weekends, pair with ballet flats like Fanning and a basket bag.
Now that street style says it's time to take off the dresses, I'll be joining the celebs in wearing Dôen dresses all spring (and probably all summer). You can incorporate the Insider Approved label into your wardrobe with these new arrivals:
