Invitations to the Met Gala are notoriously elusive. Not only is this event expensive (it's a fundraiser for the museum, after all), but seating is limited. Not everyone can be on the guest list.
Some stars are basically regulars at the Met. Typically featuring top models such as Coco Rocha and Karlie Kloss, fashion fans have come to expect attention-grabbing looks from Rihanna, Beyoncé, Blake Lively and Madonna. As a symbol of the stylish New Yorker, Sarah Jessica's hoodies always turn heads. In Zendaya, we have Gen Z's first true Met icon.
The ladder from sideline to plus one to invitee is most famously climbed by Kim Kardashian. In the 2000s and 2010s, she was considered more of an influencer than a bona fide celebrity (the presence of influencers at the Met Gala remains a source of great controversy), but in 2013 she I was only able to attend because I was with my girlfriend's then-fiancé. Kanye West. Hence her infamous sofa dress. But as Kim grew her personal style and star power, she started receiving invitations not only from herself but from the rest of her family as well. 10 years later, Kanye is gone. all The KarJenners were on the carpet.
On the other hand, there are some celebrities of a certain stature who would have taken part at least once, but then it turns out that they have never walked the famous steps. Due to scheduling conflicts and other reasons, these celebrities have not attended the Met Gala in 2024. This is a bit disappointing as I was curious to see how they would interpret the theme.
