WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor. On Friday, President Joe Biden hung the medals around the necks of a total of 19 of this year's recipients.
Ten men and nine women are the latest recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, recognizing lifetime achievements in the worlds of politics, sports, entertainment, science, civil rights and religion. In the East Room of the White House, President Biden praised their accomplishments.
“(Today) we honor 19 remarkable people whose relentless curiosity, ingenuity, ingenuity, and hope kept their faith in a better tomorrow alive with one of America's highest civilian honors. It is once again an extraordinary honor to receive this award.”
Among those honored at the White House ceremony were former Vice President Al Gore, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Congressman James Clyburn, television pioneer Phil Donahue, and the most decorated man in history. This includes female swimmer Katie Ledecky.
“Let me tell you, I'm proud to be an American, right? Let's once again applaud this year's winners.”
The White House said those awarded the nation's highest civilian honor have consistently demonstrated the strength of community, hard work and service throughout their careers.
