update: The New York City Police Department has identified the suspect in last week's seemingly random attack on actor Steve Buscemi. Police say the man seen in the surveillance footage is 50-year-old Clifton Williams.
Police have not located Williams and no arrests have been made. The search continues.
No additional information about the suspect has been released.
Last time, May 12th: New York native Steve Buscemi has become the latest celebrity to be randomly attacked on the streets of New York City.
Buscemi, 66, was walking in the Kips Bay neighborhood on Manhattan's east side last week when a man approached him and punched him, the New York Post reported.
This broad daylight attack is just one of several celebrity incidents in recent years. Comedians Rick Moranis and Michael Stuhlbarg (starring on the show) boardwalk empire Buscemi's co-star) and reality star Bethenny Frankel are among similar victims.
Buscemi's left eye and face were swollen as a result of the attack, and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.
The assailant escaped and is currently being sought.
“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in midtown Manhattan, becoming the latest victim of random acts of violence in the city,” a spokesperson for Buscemi said in a statement to the Post.
“He's okay and we appreciate everyone's well wishes, but it's hard for anyone to believe something like this could happen while walking down the street in New York. It’s so sad.”
Police said the random attack occurred around 11:48 a.m. Wednesday in front of 369 Third Avenue.
