ABC News' David Muir and Lindsey Davis will moderate the second presidential debate on September 10th.
Joe Biden and Donald Trump have said they will participate in the event, which will be their second matchup this cycle. CNN will host the first debate on June 27th at its Atlanta headquarters, with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash moderating.
ABC News has not announced the format of the debate, but one person said it will also be held in the studio. The moderator's announcement was made tonight's world news, anchored by Muir.Davis anchors streaming newscast ABC News Live Prime.
This is the first time Muir and Davis have moderated a general election debate. The last ABC News personality to do so was Martha Raddatz, who co-hosted a debate with CNN's Anderson Cooper in 2016.
Earlier today, the Biden campaign announced it would cancel the fall debates hosted by the Commission on Presidential Debates, opting instead for network-sponsored events earlier in the cycle. Shortly after, Biden and then Trump announced that they had agreed to debates on CNN and then on ABC News. Plans for the final debate came together quickly, but the camps have reportedly been discussing options in recent weeks.
Previously, a committee made up of Democrats and Republicans selected the host and schedule. By circumventing these plans, the Biden and Trump campaigns effectively took more control of the event, as they had to agree on networks, venues and perhaps even hosts.
The selection of Muir and Davis puts two of the network's star anchors front and center.
