PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month and one Florida business is offering the public the opportunity to get a free scan.
On Thursday and Friday, May 30th, our Florida dermatologists will be holding free screenings at our Panama City location.
You do not need health insurance to take the test, but you must make an appointment in advance.
Screening takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. A dermatologist simply checks to see if there is something wrong with your body.
When it comes to skin cancer screening, dermatologists say it's important to get tested annually.
“It's generally recommended that you get tested every year,” said Dr. John Ward, a Florida dermatologist. “This is further reassurance that nothing is going anywhere that could negatively impact your health. Usually bad moles take time to change and spread.”
If you've had skin cancer in the past or have a family history of skin cancer, doctors say it's best to get tested every three months.
If you notice anything on your skin that looks asymmetrical, varies in color, has the diameter of a pencil eraser, or has evolved over the years, contact your dermatologist right away.
Florida Dermatologists has offices throughout the Panhandle, including Panama City Beach, Santa Rosa Beach, and Defuniak Springs, and we also offer free exams.
