A strong wind caused part of a stage to collapse at a campaign rally in northern Mexico on Wednesday night, forcing one leading Mexican presidential candidate to evacuate and causing other injuries to be reported.
Candidate Jorge Alvarez Mines I have written Trump posted on his social media accounts that he had gone to the hospital after the incident at a campaign rally in San Pedro Garza Garcia, a wealthy suburb near the city of Monterrey. He said there were “casualties” but did not say how many there were or the extent of their injuries.
Alvarez-Miñez wrote that she was “feeling fine” but did not say why she had gone to the hospital.
“The only thing that matters at this time is caring for the victims of the accident,” he wrote.
“Unfortunately, there are injuries,” Samuel Garcia, governor of the northern border state of Nuevo Leon and a leading member of Álvarez Mines' Civic Movement party, said in a recorded statement.
San Pedro Garza Garcia Mayor Miguel Treviño wrote on his social media accounts that “there are reports of people trapped and injured. My prayers go out to the victims.”
“The stage at the end of the campaign collapsed due to strong winds,” Garcia said. These events will be held this week and next in anticipation of the June 2 presidential, state and city elections.
Video of the incident posted on social media showed Mynes waving his arms as the crowd chanted his name, but when he looked up he saw a giant screen and metal structure falling towards him.
Alvarez-Minz ran extremely quickly to the back of the stage to avoid the falling structure, which appeared to consist of a relatively light framework and some sort of screen bearing the party's logo and theater-style lighting.
Alvarez Mines is running in third place in presidential election polls, behind Claudia Sheinbaum, the leading candidate from the ruling Morena party, and Xocitl Gálvez, the opposition candidate.
election season I've been having trouble up until now The election campaign was disrupted by the murder of some two dozen local candidates, but it was not tainted by campaign incidents.
