Robert F. Kennedy Jr. becomes the Libertarian Party's presidential nominee.
Kennedy, an independent presidential candidate who spoke at the convention on Friday, was nominated by delegates to the party's convention in Washington, D.C., on Sunday.
After his nomination, Kennedy presented the convention with a video that was played before the delegates at the Washington Hilton, in which he said:
“I accept this unexpected honor. I have always respected the Libertarian Party. I identify deeply with its core values, its antipathy to war, its determination to end our addiction to forever war, and its love of individual freedom and rights. The Constitution was written for difficult times, no exceptions. I will defend the Constitution of the United States and end foreign wars. I am very grateful to the Libertarian Party for this great honor.”
Prior to the national convention, Libertarians from each state selected delegates, who would then select the party's candidate by majority vote at the convention on Sunday.
