Multiple police departments responded to a fire at New England Rent to Own on River Road Sunday afternoon.
CHELSEA, Maine — Business owners are working to recover after multiple buildings were destroyed in a fire in Chelsea Sunday afternoon.
The Chelsea Fire Department told NEWS CENTER Maine that they and 10 other area fire departments responded to the fire, which broke out at New England Rent to Own, located at 65 River Road, around 1 p.m.
The fire reportedly destroyed one building and 10 mobile storage units. No employees were inside the buildings at the time and no one was injured, authorities said.
Despite the losses, owners say they intend to keep their 22 employees employed.
One building on the campus that lost power has now been restored and generators will be hooked up so employees can continue working this week.
The owner said he has insurance to cover losses.
A portion of River Road was closed while firefighters worked to put out the blaze. The Pittston Fire Department urged drivers to avoid the area and to take detours. The road reopened around 5 p.m., according to the fire department.
Several people shared images and videos of the fire on social media.
Maine State Police Lt. Aaron Turcotte told NEWS CENTER Maine that the Chelsea fire, where no injuries were reported, is under investigation by the state fire marshal's office.
